New energy storage projects intended to help increase grid reliability and efficiency have been announced by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), Ontario's grid operator. At the same time, the projects are meant to maximize the output from wind and solar power.
Green technology company NovX21 Inc. and the City of Thetford Mines have agreed on setting up Quebec's first precious metals recycling plant. The focus of the new plant, which will be built in an existing industrial park, will be on recovering precious platinum-group metals (PGMs) from end-of-life vehicles.
Among the 16 cars Natural Resources Canada identified as the most fuel-efficient in 2014, twelve were electric and hybrid vehicles. The cars were driven 20,000 km as expected by NRC (55% city, 45% highway).
According to a new agreement with the City of Regina, EPCOR Water Prairies Inc. will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the city's new sewage treatment plant for a period of 30 years. After a long public debate on the funding of the project and a city-wide referendum in September 2013, it was finally decided upon a public-private partnership.
