Last year domestic power plants of the CEZ group generated 1.308 bln kWh of electricity from renewable resources. This represents an increase of 8.7 percent on 2007. According to the firm, this volume of electricity would suffice to cover consumption of more than 370,000 households. Production at CEZ’s accumulative and flow hydroelectric power plants grew by 2.9 % y/y to 981 mln kWh; CEZ generated a total of 327 mln kWh of electricity through cocombustion of biomass and fossil fuels (up 31 % y/y). The CEZ group is preparing a substantial increase in the future use of biomass. In the next few years it envisages producing 1 bln kWh of electricity from biomass, achieving a triple of its 2008 production. This year CEZ plans to put into operation a few wind power plants in the Czech Republic.
