Egypt will launch its first solar power project in 6 October city, with an estimated investment cost of EGP12 million. The construction will begin over 2,500 meters over the next three months and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. This is also expected to provide 80 employment opportunities. Solar power constitutes less than 1% of electricity produced in Egypt. There are other plants in Egypt such as the Al Koraymat solar thermal power plant that do not rely on solar energy alone.
