Peel Energy has announced that its latest development at the Port of Liverpool is now fully operational.
The 10MW wind farm is capable of generating electricity for 5,500 homes via its four turbines and joins Peel's existing six-turbine development at the nearby Seaforth Docks.
Councillor Berni Turner, Liverpool City Council's executive member for the environment, welcomed the £15 million development and the role it will play in Liverpool's Year of the Environment initiative.
"2009 isn't just about Liverpool, it's about bringing the whole of Merseyside together with the aim of becoming a sustainable community," he told the Crosby Herald.
"This is a wonderful initiative as wind farms are a great way of harnessing natural resources and at the same time reducing our carbon footprint."
Peel Energy opened a 26-turbine wind farm on Scout Moor in Lancashire last September. The 65MW scheme produces enough energy to provide electricity for 40,000 homes.
