Incentives for renewable energy, such as the Green Energy Act and its feed-in tariff, are safe from being abolished since Ontario voters have re-elected Premier McGuinty election of October 6, 2011. Renewable energy had become a main issue during the election campaign with the challenging Progressive Conservative Party promising to end Ontario's green energy initiatives, abolish the Ontario Power Authority and terminate the province's contoversial C$7 billion agreement with Samsung C&T, which encompasses the development of solar and wind energy projects of 2,500 MW in the province. Despite the Liberal Party's victory, opposition to these issues will continue to prevail as the Liberals lost valuable seats in the election.
