The Meadow Lake Tribal Council announced on October 3 the development of a 36 MW biomass power plant outside of town. To celebrate this, the tribe held a community ceremony where it used a wood pellet barbecue for the event's meal. The barbecue was fueled by wood pellets from the tribe's new pellet mill on the site of the proposed pellet plant which has not yet begun commercial operations but soon will. In March or April of next year, construction is supposed to begin on the power plant, too.
