Target Countries: Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria
Supported by the International Climate Initiative (ICI), the Renewables Academy AG (RENAC) was commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) to provide a three year capacity building program for grid integration of renewable energies.
The RE-GridSystem project will demonstrate how a high amount of renewable energy (wind energy, grid connected photovoltaic and concentrating solar power) can be safely integrated into the electricity supply in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria and which steps are essential for the implementation.
To achieve a maximum of effectiveness, the capacity building program will combine seminars in Berlin, online seminars (webinars), a mobile exhibition and a final workshop. ReGrid will closely cooperate with public and private stakeholders and existing structures and projects in the region.
Measures include 14 two week seminars and 5 webinar, targeting experts from the energy sectors and administration. Currently an analysis of the status quo is conducted and a mobile exhibition with 12 bilingual information boards on the grid integration of renewables is prepared.
These will be displayed for several weeks at two locations in each target country. Besides the training seminars for 140 experts from the seven countries a regional workshop at the end of the project will summarize the project outcomes for decision makers and promote an ongoing exchange of experiences which in turn will contribute to solid strategy development on renewable in the MENA region.
Location: Renewables Academy, Schönhauser Allee 10 -11, 10119, Berlin, Germany
