Currently Egypt begins the prequalification for the Suez wind farm, which will be the first privately developed renewable energy project.
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has invited developers to prequalify for the building contract. The farm will then be bassed on a BOO basis (build - own - operate). The EETC will be the single buyer under a 20 -25 year long-term power purchase agreement. The farm shall begin operating in 2014 and is a further step in reaching Egypt´s goal of producing 20% or its power from renewable sources by 2020.
