The German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce will be conducting a delegation on renewable energy in the UAE from the 9th to the 11th of October 2011, specialized in solar technology.

The program, which includes a symposium on the topic of solar energy, is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The symposium is scheduled for Monday the 10.10.2011. Individual business appointments are planned for Sunday the 09.10.2011 and Tuesday the 11.10.2011. The focus of this trip will be on solar energy including Solar cooling.

The majority of the United Arab Emirate’s energy supply continues to remain dependent on fossil fuels. The main reason for this is the abundance of local resources. Since a few years the UAE has started to orientate itself along the global trend of climate neutral energy supply. As such, the government already formulated in Mai 2009 its goal to draw 7% of its energy from renewable resources by the year 2020.

In addition to this, comes the prestige project “Al Masdar” close to Abu Dhabi, with an investment volume of 22 billion US-Dollars. In general, there has been a rise in demand for solar energy technology within the area of efficient building construction as well as in solar cooling.

The United Arab Emirates possess an excellent potential within the area of solar energy. 360 days of sunshine per year, with eight to ten hours of sunshine per day make this location highly suitable for solar focused technical applications.

The AHK UAE is organizing a symposium on the 10.10.2011 with a possibility to introduce businesses and products, and furthermore offers individual business talks and company visits on the 09.10.2011 and 11.10.2011.
