E.ON is seeking to invest 5 million euro into the development of a pilot plant in the German town of Falkenhagen to convert power from wind energy into hydrogen, which can then be stored on the Germany's gas grid.
Starting in 2013, power from renewable energy sources will be used by the plant to produce about 360 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour through electrolysis.
